On Friday, March 14, 2025 a new Executive Order called for defunding and eliminating the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the federal agency charged with distributing congressionally approved funds to libraries, museums and archives.

NH Library services affected by the funding cuts include Libby, a service used by our users last year to download nearly 16,000 eBook, audiobook and magazine titles.

Interlibrary Loan Services will also be affected.  Small and rural library users like ours depend on this service to access titles not available at their library.  Our patrons borrowed nearly 2000 titles from other libraries in 2024 and we loaned out a similar amount to other libraries.

Talking Book Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is also subsidized by these funds.
