Friends of the Meredith Library

Picture
Can you help?  Friends of the Meredith Library are looking for a new location for their retail bookstore, Once Read Books.

Once Read Books opened in June 2016 as a fundraising venture to support community programs  offered  by the library.  The organization recently vacated the unit they had renovated at the Meredith Bay Shopping Plaza so the owners could accommodate several major tenants.

The search for a new location is on and all suggestions or ideas would be welcomed.  Ideally, the Friends are seeking at least 1000 square feet with good wall and floor space.  The non-profit is willing to spruce up any space and would entertain a partnership with another entity or a simple lease arrangement with a property owner.

Organized and staffed entirely by volunteers, Once Read Books (ORB) offers  rare, out of print, and gently used books.  A special section, dedicated to New England’s history, people and activities has been a big hit with visitors to the region.  The shop has also offered first editions, signed copies, the usual classics, popular reads, and an extensive assortment of non-fiction of a wide range of subjects and activities.

Once Read Books, is a member of the NH Antiquarian Booksellers Association (NHABA).  Membership is open to seasoned rare and used book dealers who are doing business in New Hampshire and are recognized for their quality and knowledge of books.  Once Read Books is the first, and to date the only bookstore operated by a volunteer organization to be awarded membership in NHABA.

The Friends of the Meredith Library would welcome any suggestions or offers on a new location.  Please contact Deb at debmcneish19@gmail.com or Eliza at oncereadbooksnh@gmail.com.

About the Friends
Mission Statement: The mission of the Friends of the Meredith Library is to promote library involvement in the community and community involvement in the library.  We will achieve this mission by fundraising, volunteering, sponsoring activities and creating programs of interest to the community.

The Friends continue to sponsor the library's museum pass program, the Ancestry.com subscription, the Humanities Council lecture series, the Adult and Teen Summer Reading Programs, various classes and events for all ages and continuing education for library staff.  In addition the Friends help to plant and maintain the library gardens in front and behind the building each year.

Continuing fundraising activities include book sales (will resume after the renovation/addition to the Library is completed in 2021) and book shelf sales at various antique shops in the area.

If you would like to join the Friends, please download a Membership Form and return it to the library.  New members will receive a free Friends of the Library tote.

If you would like to volunteer for the Friends, please download a
