So, whats new for ebooks and eaudio books this month? ![]() Adnan's Story: The Search for Truth and Justice after Serial by Rabia Chaudry. The true crime podcast Serial was a huge breakout hit in 2014. Audiences couldn't get enough of the episodic real life crime story. It centers around the murder of Hae Min Lee and the man convicted of the crime -- Adnan Syed. Did he do it? This book is written by Adnan's sister. A staunch supporter of her brother, this is her attempt to tell her family's side of the story. One reader has a suggestion for those thinking of reading Adnan's Story: "If you haven't listened to any of these podcasts, you should at least listen to Serial before picking up this book; both podcasts are heavily referred to throughout the book" (1). For those looking to listen to Serial first, you may do so HERE. Read this if you love true crime, mysteries, and legal dramas. Hell to Pay by George P. Pelecanos follows investigators Derek Strange and Terry Quinn as they dig deep into the case of a 14-year-old runaway girl. One reader describes the book as "addictive" (2). This novel is a follow up to Pelecanos' Right as Rain. Read this if you like series, crime novels, or mysteries. The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead is one of Oprah's Book Club picks for 2016. The historical fiction novel centers around a slave named Cora who seeks the freedom promised by the underground railroad (in this novel, a literal railroad). Warning: this book depicts the horrors of slavery and thus includes many scenes that are violent and/or upsetting. In the words of one reviewer on Good Reads: "This is a difficult book to read with the horrific treatment and gruesome punishments of African American slaves so much a part of the narrative, but it is essential that we read this and other books like it" (3).
Read this if you like historical fiction, Oprah's Book Club, and difficult reads. You can find all these and more on our digital catalogue via Overdrive. Set it to: Meredith Public Library. Make sure you have your library card number and you're ready to go!
